I am running for Team Kitten Rescue in the 2018 Los Angeles Marathon. I have never participated in a Marathon and I'm incredibly excited!
Please donate to help me save homeless animals
We are no longer accepting donations on this campaign, but there are other ways for you to support us today!
Hello Friends! It all started when I had such a positive experience when adopting two cats from Kitten Rescue in 2013 that I decided to become a volunteer. I am now working at the Kitten Rescue nursery, where hundreds of kittens are saved every year by an expert staff who bottle feed and care for the medical needs, round the clock, of these tiny orphaned kittens until they can be weaned, tested, treated, vaccinated, spayed/neutered and available for adoption. It chokes me up just thinking about how dedicated, hard working and cool these folks are who save so many kittens who otherwise would have died on the streets, or been euthanized at the city shelters. I am running with Team Kitten Rescue in support of the Kitten Rescue Nursery.
At the nursery, we also care for the Powerpuffs---three young cats from the same litter, who are former nursery bottle babies. They have a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia, a neurologic injury occurring before birth, which limits their ability to control or coordinate their muscles. Their condition is severe--they cannot stand upright or walk, but they have learned to scoot around and use pee pads. They enjoy playing, with toys and with each other. They love sunbathing and their meal time. They like their carriage strolls outside where they sniff the breeze and bite at the tall grass. You can see them 24/7 on one of our Kitten Cams-where they have fans around the country and the world who follow their daily activities. They are sweet funny cats who have a great life at the nursery.
Cats with medical conditions like the Powerpuffs would be euthanized were it not for organizations like Kitten Rescue. The Powerpuffs teach us, and the world through the kitten cam, that special needs cats, even those with major impairments, can still live happy healthy lives. As one of their caretakers--and one of their biggest fans---these cats give me joy, make me laugh and challenge me as I try to find ways to enrich their lives and improve and maintain their skills. For Bubbles, Buttercup and Blossom, and all the special needs kitties supported by Kitten Rescue, I am running with the team in the LA Marathon.
Kitten Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of homeless animals. Each year they rescue over 1,000 cats (and some dogs!) from the streets and city shelters and place them into new homes. Kitten Rescue is on the forefront of making Los Angeles a No-Kill City and they will not stop until all of the shelters are empty and every animal has a loving home.
Kitten Rescue is comprised of dedicated volunteers who devote much of their time to helping homeless animals, while juggling their own families, jobs and lives as best as they can! At any given time you may find them bottle feeding orphaned kittens, nursing sick cats and dogs to health, visiting high-kill shelters to save animals, running back and forth to veterinary clinics, trapping community cats for spay/neuter, feeding community cats, taming feral kittens, rehabilitating animals with behavioral issues, taking foster animals to adoption events, or delivering animals to their forever homes.
The Kitten Rescue Sanctuary is home to up to 150 special needs cats and around 1000 animals are cared for in foster homes at any given time. In 2016 Kitten Rescue opened the Kitten Rescue Nursery, where they bottle feed orphaned, unweaned kittens around the clock.
