Kitten Rescue Volunteer Gives Barni Hope

On Sunday, June 25th, Kitten Rescue volunteer, Mary Winters, was at East Valley Shelter when she overheard a homeless man asking a shelter worker for help. He was holding a shoe box that contained a kitten with a broken leg in it. He had just come from an emergency vet hospital, where he was told that it would cost thousands of dollars for surgery to fix the broken leg. He did not have the means to pay for surgery, so he went to the shelter with the hope of finding some help for this poor kitten that he had named Barney (which we have changed to a more feminine spelling, Barni)- He said that he knew Barni was a boy's name but she looked like a Barni and responded to it!

Mary then overheard the shelter employee explain to the man that they would not be able to treat the kitten, but would TRY to find a rescue group to adopt her and take on and take financial responsibility for her medical care... but that could take days and there was no guarantee that a rescue group could be found.

Mary peered into the box. She took one look at the kitten's face and could see that she was in pain. This kitten needed help immediately. Without hesitation, Mary said "I will take the kitten" and called a Kitten Rescue medical coordinator for help.

Mary took Barni to Southern California Veterinary Hospital, where a vet exam and x-rays confirmed that she did indeed have a broken leg that needed surgery. Dr Rigoni scheduled the surgery for the next day. Barni had a pin put in her leg that will need to be removed after 4 weeks of cage rest.

Barni's surgery, xrays and exam add up to around $1500.00. Please help us help Barni by making a tax deductible donation here. You can also paypal a donation to donations@kittenrescue.org or send a check to: Kitten Rescue 3519 Casitas Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90039. Please note that it is for Barni's surgery.

Thank you for helping kittens like Barni get a second chance!
