Jerry update, March 2, 2017:

It is with great sadness that we inform you that Jerry passed away early this morning, just before 1 am. He was so bright and bouncy when he came back from the hospital and acting like his old self, this is a huge and terrible shock.

We're going to bring him in for a necropsy. We don't usually do those and it won't bring him back to life, but not knowing why is just too much to handle.

Thank you to everyone who donated to save his life- he is a special soul and we will miss him terribly.

Sweet little Jerry was born at the Kitten Rescue Sanctuary on November 13th, when we took in a very pregnant stray mama cat. Jerry was the runt of the litter and had a very difficult time in his first four weeks. While his brother Ben grew at a normal pace, Jerry always stayed around half his weight. In the last two weeks Jerry had some unusual breathing problems, but every time we ran him to the vet they couldn't come up with an explanation - his lungs sounded clear, his heart sounded fine. He had an appointment with an internist set for Thursday, March 2nd, but on Sunday, February 26th, he was having a very difficult time and stopped eating, so we took him back to the vet. The vet who saw him described his lungs as "over inflating" and thinks it is likely that he has an obstruction. The leading suspect is an upper airway obstruction, possibly a nasal/pharyngeal polyp or some "foreign object". The only way to diagnose those in a kitten his size is with a CT scan and rhinoscopy. Given his size and fragility, the procedures are not without risk, and if they can't intubate him or he has a bad inflammatory response to intubation they may have to give him a tracheotomy.

Jerry is a very special kitten and we are fighting for him. The estimate for Jerry's vet care is around $4000.00. Please help us save Jerry by making a tax deductible donation for his care.
