We are experiencing a recent spike in FIP cases and are close to running out of medication. We need to raise $13,000 to pay for more GS-441524 to save the new batch of cats that have come down with FIP.
Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is a disease you may not have heard of, unless you have had a cat diagnosed with this tragic and fatal disease. In that case, you know the complete devastation that accompanies this diagnosis. Until very recently FIP was a death sentence. Then something amazing happened.
There is now a treatment for cats infected with FIP and it is showing great success! Within the Kitten Rescue community alone, we have been able to reverse the progress of the disease in hundreds of cats thus far.
The medication, GS-441524, works by fooling the virus into terminating itself during the replication process. So instead of an FIP infection raging out of control and killing the cat, the course of the infection is reversed and the cat develops a successful immune response. Imagine the joy of seeing these cats become healthy and playful again as their symptoms resolve during the course of their treatment.
Now here is the bad news: FIP treatment is expensive. GS-441524 is also difficult to obtain and is in high demand. Each cat must receive daily treatment for 12 weeks. And this doesn’t include the cost of lab work, vet visits, and other supplies. This miraculous medication has already cost us thousands of dollars and has helped us save so many lives that would have been lost without this lifesaving treatment.
